Some stufff happened and long story short I got 3 goldfish from the fair that i didnt want. (not because i dont want them but because idk how to properly take care of them) that being said does anyone know anything about goldfish cause everytime i had pet fish when i was a kid they died and i cried everytime cause its my fault and idk what do do i dont want the fishies to die :(

hey, great of you to ask about proper care! ^^

common goldfish need lots of room, 70 gallons and more because they grow massive and are real poop machines. a pond is really best for them, but if there’s no one nearby who could take them in, try getting a big storage bin (food safe) and you have an indoor pond ^^

you can also try to find a second-hand tank, they are petty cheap to come by if you have the room for it. (and a really sturdy piece of furniture to support the weight)

you’ll also need a strong filter and the tank or bin needs to be cycled. that means culture of bacteria have to develop that break down the harmful ammonia into nitrite and nitrites into nitrate, they grow slowly and in the beginning massive waterchanges have to be done daily so it doesn’t build up as fast. if you know someone with an aquarium you could ask if they could bring you a dirty filter pad to rinse in your tank, to get the cycle started faster. plants are nice too and help keep the water balanced.

i know it’s a lot to take in at first, but once it’s all set up it’s fairly easy to maintain. big tank also means stable water parameters.

in the beginning, if a big tank is not managable right now, something around 30 gallons might be enough as a grow-out tank, but i wouldn’t wait too long to upgrade. you could look at grown goldfish on google, they get up to a foot in length, so you can imagine how much space they really need. in case they are fancy goldfish though, a 55 gallons would be enough to keep them longterm, afaik fair goldfish are usually feeder goldfish though, right?

good luck with your new pets ^^

if you have any more questions feel free to ask, there’s quite the fish community on tumblr ready to help you.

the most unattractive quality to me in other people is constant belittling of what means a lot to others. being contrarian just to be contrarian. people who love to play devil’s advocate. a kind of smugness about everything. an air of being above everyone because you don’t care about anything deeply like the people you mock

a former college of mine was like that. ridiculously obvious about it too. so if you said one thing, she’s automatically assume the opposing position, sometimes switching in between without noticing.
